TRNC Employers Union say they cant pay the new minimum wage of 7,000 as this will force them to sack some workers

The TRNC Employers Union has said they will not pay the new minimum wage of 7,000 as this will force them to sack some workers.

This is the third time in 2021 that the minimum wage has been set.

Employers' Union, President Metin Arhun, who attended the meeting convened to set a new minimum wage on Wednesday but left the meeting because the outcome of the meeting would not be a healthy one announced that they would apply to the judiciary regarding the new minimum wage.

Evaluating the decision, he said the move was 'a populist attitude before the election, which is not for the benefit of the country.' Arhun said that he received calls from employers in many sectors, stating that businesses will not be able to pay the new minimum wage would have to lay off workers.

Speaking to YENİDÜZEN, Arhun stated that they would take the matter to the judiciary. He said employees can't get along, yes, but the employer is not to blame, but the size of the public and other factors. "Layoff will begin, we will get worse," he said.

Evaluating the attitude of the government and the workers' wing as a 'populist approach before the election', Arhun said, “There is no one who thinks about employers and companies, especially now we have been disregarded at the time of the election. This is so in general. The populist politician is always on the side of the majority. If only the goal was to save the country...”

Explaining that they are 'like flesh and nails' with the employees, Arhun stated that they are always on the side of the employees.

We have suffered from this in the past, we closed the industrial holding, KTHY, many of them are dying. If we don't get the balance right, many employees will be hurt. Many people applied to cross south, is that what we want? No one thinks about employers or companies, especially now, we are disregarded at election time. This is so in general. The populist politician is always on the side of the majority. If only the goal was to save the country.

It would have been a balanced figure to increase the prices by 20, 25% from last year to this year. We were going to say yes unanimously for 6,500 TL, but we could not find this opportunity. The commission and the unions were under pressure, we saw a very grumpy employee representative.

Of course we will object. 15 days after the objection, the commission will be collected again and we will go. I hope the government comes more carefully and with the aim of getting 'unanimity' from the meeting. This step is not for the benefit of the country. We will apply to the judiciary, if necessary, we will apply to the court.
