Foreigners who tried to enter south Cyprus illegally assault police officer
Seven people were arrested on Thursday night for trying to enter south Cyprus illegally and assaulting a police officer.
The 7 suspects, 1, a Turkish man identified as F.B and 6 other foreign nationals had tried to enter south Cyprus at about 9:30pm on Thursday night at the Tabahana in Akıncılar-Lefkosa.
Police said one of the suspects had fled the scene by biting and pushing a policeman while he was under arrest.The other suspects, who were arrested, were brought before the court on Friday for "Intentionally forming a secret alliance, assaulting a police and escaping from legal detention"
Police said 5 men, and one woman aged between 19 and 45, were in the vehicle used by F.B, with the intention of committing a serious crime in crossing to the south.
Police said the legal status of the suspects regarding their presence in the country will be investigated, and statements will be taken from other suspects.
They were ordered to remain in police custody for 3 days for investigation purposes.
