Four people arrested for trying to scam a 70-year-old woman in north Cyprus
Four people suspected of attempting to defraud an elderly woman out of her savings, were arrested in Kyrenia on Friday.
According to police report, one of the suspects, a male had called a 70-year-old woman on phone using a Turkish line and introduced himself as a prosecutor. He suggested that the money in her bank was being used by the FETO terrorist organisation and that she should withdraw the money and give it to the state.
The woman who became scared went to the bank to withdraw the money from her account and told the man that she had removed her money from the bank. Fortunately, it dawned on her that she was being scammed and notified the police instead.
A large-scale investigation was launched by the police leading to the arrest of four people involved in the matter.
The suspects were taken to court on Friday, where they were ordered to remain in police custody for three days while investigation of the case continues.
