Near East Schools switch to online education for two weeks

Near East Schools has announced that it will switch to online education at kindergarten, primary, secondary and high school levels between 6-15 January due to the increasing COVID-19 cases in the country.

In the "SARS-CoV-2 Omicron Variant Surveillance and Risk Assessment Technical Information Report in Northern Cyprus" announced by the Near East University on Tuesday, with the continued spread of Omicron-induced COVID-19 cases in the TRNC, the number of daily COVID-19 cases in the country at the end of January, it was emphasized that the number could reach 2,000. A few hours later, the number of daily cases announced by the Ministry of Health reached 700, breaking a record as if confirming this warning.

Due to the increasing risk, it has been announced that the Near East College, Near East Yeniboğaziçi College and Suat Günsel Girne College has decided to switch to distance education at the kindergarten primary, secondary and high school levels starting tomorrow (Thursday, January, 6, 2022). Schools, which will continue their education activities online as of Thursday, January 6, will return to normal education on Monday, January 17.

Deputy Rector for Near East Primary and Secondary Education Assoc. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan made the decision, “Taking into account the COVID-19 cases that have escalated due to the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 and the warnings of scientists that the number of daily cases in our country may reach 2,000, our primary, secondary and secondary schools in Nicosia, Yeniboğaziçi and Girne at the high school level; We have decided to switch to online education between 6-17 January”.

"The health of our students, teachers and parents is our top priority," said Assoc. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan said, "We will continue our education activities without interruption in this period when we will switch to online education with the technical infrastructure we have."
