A foreigner who tried to enter south Cyprus illegally re-arrested after first escaping the police
An international student who tried to cross into south Cyprus illegally but escaped after he was caught during an identity check carried out by the police team in Akıncılar village has been arrested.
According to police statement, the suspect identified only as E.B.N tried to escape by running away and was caught during the identity check carried out by the police team in Akıncılar village while trying to cross to the south illegally.
He was arrested on the grounds that he made a secret alliance to cross to the south of Cyprus by violating the military forbidden zone.
The police in a court statement the suspect tried to run away from the police during an identity check carried out by a police team in Akıncılar village at 10:00pm on February 24. The police subsequently identified the suspect in the village and brought him to Demirhan Police Station for investigation purposes, and during his interrogation with the help of an interpreter on February 25, he said that he had made an arrangement with a Nigerian national living in the south to cross over to south Cyprus illegally for 350 Euros.
It was discovered that there were 2 men and 1 woman with him.
He was ordered to be detained in police custody for 3 days for investigation purposes.
