No plan hike in electricity prices, major consumer to pay more - TRNC Prime Minister

Instead of a hike in electricity prices in the TRNC, those who consume more electricity will be made to pay more, said Prime Minister, Faiz Sucuoğlu.

Faiz Sucuoğlu, who is the Chairman of the National Unity Party made the statement on Friday while discussing the issues bedeviling the Turkish Cyprus Electricity Authority.

Stating that Kıb-Tek will be the first target of the new government, Sucuoğlu noted that Kıb-Tek is not in a sustainable situation, adding that when the rise in oil prices is added to this, a big problem arises.

Speaking on electricity hike, Prime Minister Sucuoğlu stated that the target is "a system in which those who consume a lot will pay a lot, but there is no clearer situation yet."

“Rather than a hike, there is a 3-stage study in the form of consuming less than consuming more, and consuming a lot more. We are working on a system that will charge higher for those who consume more than a certain KW, and lower wages for those who consume less, without burdening the low-income. The result will be out by tomorrow (Wednesday) at the latest. We will put it into effect with the decision of the Council of Ministers," he said.
