One person arrested in connection with the death of Turkish Cypriot business man who was murdered on Tuesday night
One person has been arrested in connection with the death of Turkish Cypriot businessman who was shot dead alongside his driver on Tuesday night in Girne.
A person named Ö.T was arrested in connection with the murder of Halil Falyalı and his driver Murat Demirtaş. He was brought to the Girne District Court on Wednesday morning on charges of 'premeditated murder', 'using illegal firearms and explosives, transporting, saving' and 'opening fire in a residential area' in Çatalköy.
A 2-day detention decision was made.
The suspect, was found in the area with a rented vehicle at the time of the incident.
The police disclosed the blood-curdling details of the assassination in court.
Inspector Murat Bayram stated that a 'long-barreled' weapon was used in the incident, and stated that during the search conducted at the scene, there were 17 7.62 mm diameter empty shell casings, 5 9 mm empty shells and 9 7.62 mm bullets.
Noting that Ö.T., who was found to be in the area with a rental car at the time of the incident in the investigation, was found to be related to the issue and was arrested, Bayram said that the searches have been expanded.
Bayram stated that there are other wanted persons and indications.
There was also an unconfirmed rumor that the suspect might have escaped to Turkey by boat.
What Happened on Tuesday night
Halil Falyalı, the owner of Les Ambassadeurs Hotel and Casino and his driver were attacked by unknown gun man (men) on Tuesday evening on 20 July Street in Çatalköy in Girne. His driver, Demirtaş died at the scene while Halil Falyalı was seriously injured.
The attack happened in front of his house and family at about 6:45pm.
He was rushed to the Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital and then to NEU Hospital where he later died.
Police said an autopsy will be carried on Demirtaş and Falyalı.
Halil Falyalı will be buried in Kumyalı tomorrow.
