Record number of passengers 54,358, arrived the TRNC in January

The Tourism Ministry has announced tourism figures for January 2022 and according to the latest figures, there has been a serious increase in the number of passengers apart from TRNC citizens arriving in the country compared to the same month the previous year.

While the number of passengers that arrived to the TRNC from air and sea was 5,295 during the first month of 2021, this figure rose in January 2022 by 926.6% reaching 54,358.

Of the figures recorded, 45,065 Turkish citizens and 9,293 people from other countries arrived in the TRNC during the month of January 2022.

When compared with figures from January 2021 data, a 1363.6 % rise in the number of Turkish passengers and a 319.4% increase in the number of other foreign country passengers could be seen in 2022.

There was also an increase in the number of accommodations at hotels and tourist facilities in the country in parallel to the increase in the number of arrivals

Accordingly, while the number of people staying at hotels in January 2021 stood at 1,943, this figure increased by 1643% in the January of this year reaching 33, 994.

The total number of people accommodated at tourist facilities was 36,041in January 2022 with the 2,047 TRNC citizens added to this figure.

There has also been an increase in the number of overnight stays at tourist facilities in January 2022 compared to same month of 2021.

Accordingly, while the number of foreign citizens who stayed overnight was 6, 550 in January 2021, this number became 111 thousand 846 in January 2022, showing an increase of 1607%.

The occupancy rate at tourist facilities was 18.2% in January 2022 while this number was 4.1% in January 2021.
