Student who stole a laptop in 2020, arrested at the airport while trying to exit the TRNC

A student who stole a computer from a car in 2020 and wanted to sell it but escaped after the buyer tried to call the police on him have been arrested while trying to exit the TRNC.

The suspect, an international student in the TRNC was arrested on pending court order at the Ercan Airport on Thursday, February, 3, 2022 while trying to exit the country.

He was taken to a court in Lefkosa on Friday for theft.

Police told the court that the suspect on October, 12, 2020 stole a Lenovo brand V310 laptop from a Nissan Juke brand vehicle parked at Akdeniz Sokak Blok in Hamitköy. He then took the laptop to a computer shop named techno Asya, operating in Famagusta to sell it. The shop owner suspected that the laptop was stolen and threatened to call the police which made the suspect to quickly flee from the shop.

A court order was obtained for his arrest which lead to his arrest on Thursday, more than one year after the incident.
