Student without a resident permit stole phone from a shop in Lefkosa

A person who stole a mobile phone in an electronic shop in Lefkosa was caught after the phone rang in his pocket.

The suspect, an international student in the country and identified only as B.S reportedly entered Turkcell electronic shop in Lefkosa as a customer, where he stole a mobile phone.

He was arrested the next day and taken to a court in Lefkosa.

Police officer who testified in court said the suspect at about 11:45am on January, 22 entered the shop operating on Lefkoşa Girne street and stole 1,200 dollars worth IPhone 13 brand phone which was on sale. He was arrested at about 2:00am on January, 23 and the phone recovered from him.

Police said the suspect has been living in the country illegally for 404 days since December, 27, 2020 without a resident permit. 

He was ordered to remain in detention for 15 days.
