Drugs worth over 2-million TL found hidden inside red pepper at Ercan Airport, 4 people arrested
Turkish Cypriot police on Thursday carried out a targeted search on courier packages at Ercan Airport and found 5 kilos and 200 grams of cannabis type narcotic hidden inside among chili peppers in a suitcase.
The incident happened on Thursday, March, 3, at Ercan Airport when a police team from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate carried out a search on a student who had arrived at the airport.
During the search, police stated that they found a substance believed to be a cannabis type drug, weighing approximately 5 kilograms and 200 grams, in 6 packages, hidden among red pepper in 3 separate bags, which were among the personal belongings of the first suspect.
Three other people, who are all African students and believed to be connected with the incident were arrested following the operation.
They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on Friday on charges of Illegal Drugs (Cannabis) Purchase, Import and Saving.
Police said it was determined that the first suspect was to deliver the said package through a wanted person in exchange for $500.
During a search carried out in the apartment of one of the suspects in Hamikoy, cannabis-type drugs weighing about 8 grams were seized in 14 separate packages in a cardboard shoe box.
Police said nothing illegal was detected in the search made at the residence of Suspect-3 and Suspect-4.
They were detained for three days for more investigation to be carried out.
***Guys.... What is this? doing drug is a crime, while still engage in such?
The first suspect might be suffering from something he knows nothing about. If you must carry anything for someone from abroad, please make sure to know the content of such. Better still don't carry.
