Five foreigners caught trying to enter south Cyprus illegally

Five people, 4 of whom are foreign nationals and the other a Turkish were identified and nabbed by Turkish Cypriot police on Wednesday at the old Lefkosa road, to the west of Ercan Airport,while trying to enter south Cyprus illegally. 

Police said they were caught while  trying to enter south Cyprus illegally during an operation carried out in the region on Wednesday night.

They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on Thursday.

Police officer who testified in court said that four of the suspects were identified and arrested red-handed in a car which was used by the fifth suspect.

Police stated that it was determined that the suspect driving the vehicle had formed a secret alliance to pass each of them from north to south in exchange for 100 Euros per person.

A cell phone found in the possession of one of the suspects was taken as an exhibit to be examined by a court order.

Two of the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crimes they had committed.

Police said the suspects' status in the TRNC and their voluntary statements will be confirmed and disproved.
