Hikes in alcoholic beverages will be re-evaluated - Prime Minister

The recent hikes in alcoholic beverages in the TRNC will be re-evaluated, said Prime Minister, Faiz Sucuoğlu.

Faiz Sucuoğlu  made the statement during plenary session in the parliament on Monday.

Sucuoğlu stated that the hikes in alcoholic beverages would be re-evaluated.

Speaking on the increase in electricity tariff, the Prime Minister said,  no gain was created with the increase in electricity as the cost and sales difference was brought to zero, but it would not be possible to run the economic process by constantly borrowing without a raise.

Sucuoğlu noted that the income from the increase in alcoholic beverages will be used for other debts and pointed out that the debts to AKSA have increased significantly every month.

He stated that there was a 16.2 percent contraction in real prices in the economy caused by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine; He also announced that there was a 20.5 percent decrease in per capita income in dollar terms.

Speaking on power cut, the Minister stated that the malfunction in the thermal power plant was fixed yesterday evening (Sunday evening) adding that approximately 2,400 tons of fuel was available, while 450 tons are used daily.

Speaking on the issue of illegal taxi operators, the Prime Minister said the work on the draft for pirated taxis continues.
