Man to face trial for attempted murder for hitting a police officer on duty with his car

A man will face trial for attempted murder for hitting a police officer who tried to stop him during traffic control. 

The incident happened at around 4:30pm on Thursday last week on Piyale Paşa street, Alsancak, Kyrenia.

The suspect, was arrested and taken to court on Saturday on charges of "Attempted murder and hitting a Police."

Police officer who testified in court said a Police officer in the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate who were on patrol had stopped the suspect for traffic control purpose after suspecting that he had drugs in his possession.

Instead of stopping, the suspect deliberately drove his vehicle towards the officer who was standing in front of him and in the process hit the officer and drove off.

The police officer was injured in the incident.

The suspect was later identified and arrested on the same day in Dikmen.
