Government prepare regulations that will require drivers take drug and alcohol tests

A legal regulation to enable drivers to perform drug and alcohol tests is ready.

The Draft Law on Road Safety, which was approved by the government and sent to the Parliament's agenda, was published by the Minister of Parliament in the Official Gazette and presented to the public.

Opinions and suggestions regarding the draft will be submitted to the Speaker of the Assembly in writing within 20 days.

According to its general rationale, the Draft Road Safety Law regulates drug tests in traffic due to the prevalence of drug crimes alongside alcohol.

In the bill, it is emphasized that the law made in 1988 aimed to prevent the use of alcohol in those years, and today, due to the widespread use of alcohol, especially drug crimes, it is necessary to both prevent drug use and ensure road safety at the maximum level by preventing driving under the influence of drugs.

The bill regulates drug tests in traffic and the application of necessary penal sanctions to those who are found.
