Man arrested more than one week after escaping from an accident scene

A man who had an accident with a vehicle he was driving and ran away from the accident scene in Lefkosa last week has been identified and arrested by the police.

The suspect, a 35-year-old man, an African student was identified and arrested on Tuesday following a successful operation by the Lefkosa traffic teams.

The accident occurred on April 16, on the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Street.

The suspect's vehicle reportedly swerved from the road and crashed onto a vehicle driven by a 53-year-old man which was coming in the same direction. 

With the impact of the collision, the 53-year-old man's vehicle hit a date tree in the middle of the road while the suspect disappeared immediately after the incident.

The damaged caused to the vehicle was estimated at 90,000 TL.
