Massive protest against hikes in Lefkosa today
There was a massive demonstration by the general public and union organisations against the increasing cost of living in North Cyprus on Friday morning.
Lefkosa witnessed one of it's biggest action in recent years on Friday as Unions of public and private sector united to hold a one-day strike grounding services across the TRNC to protest against the continuing price hikes in food, fuel and energy costs.
The streets of Lefkosa was filled with protesters from across the country.
Thousands of people consisting of many unions, organizations, political parties, children and civilians gathered in front of the Prime Ministry to say “No to Social Extinction and Poverty” . The action, which was described as 'a warning', called for the government to resign.
It ended after the speeches of the union leaders and a music concert.
Internet around the area was allegedly shut down with jemmers.
