No backing out of two-state solution in Cyprus - Ersin Tatar

There is no going back from the Turkish Cypriot side’s policy for a two-state solution in Cyprus, said TRNC president, Ersin Tatar.

Tatar made the statement on Monday and according to him; “Our aim is to reach a just, lasting and sustainable solution in Cyprus and to achieve peace and stability in the region and the Eastern Mediterranean.”

He said the Greek Cypriot side continued to take unilateral actions and pursue an armament campaign that raised tensions in the region, Tatar said that it was out of the question for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Turkiye to accept the solution model that was trying to be imposed by the Greek Cypriot side.

“It is not possible to achieve a federal settlement in Cyprus. All efforts to reach such a settlement which have been going on since 1968 have been exhausted because of the Greek Cypriot side’s intransigent stance and its refusal to accept the Turkish Cypriot side’s political equality. The Annan Plan referendum as well as the talks in Crans Montana has revealed that a federal settlement is not possible,” he said.

Tatar added that the Turkish Cypriot side was determined on its two-state policy which it had tabled during last year’s informal summit in Geneva.

He also called on all related parties and interlocutors on the Cyprus Issue to take into account the Turkish Cypriot side’s two-state policy in line with the realities on the island.
