TRNC government reduces electricity price by subsidizing it

TRNC Prime Minister, Faiz Sucuoğlu, on Tuesday announced that the price of electricity will be reviewed and reduced by subsidizing it.

The changes comes after a series of protests by unions and citizens against the hikes on Friday and Monday this week.

Sucuoğlu made the announcement following a meeting by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Prime Minister said all invoices will be reviewed and the bill will be reduced. The new reduction will apply to March electricity invoices. 

For those who have paid their bills already, a set-off will be provided.

The new rates are as follows;

0 – 250 units: 0.98 TL
250 – 500 units: decreases from 2.70 TL to 1.70 TL
501 – 750 units: decreases from 2.95 to 2 TL
750 – 1000 units: decreases from 3.25 TL to 2.25 TL
