TRNC Prime Minister resigns as a result of rift with minister of Finance

The resignation of the government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus lead by Faiz Sucuoğlu has been accepted by president Ersin Tatar.

On Tuesday, the political atmosphere in the TRNC was thrown into a tense moment when Prime Minister, Faiz Sucuoğlu sent two letters to the president, one seeking to sack the Minister of Finance Sunat Atun and the other his resignation letter if the president refuses to sign the former.

Also on Tuesday, the Prime Minister, held a meeting with party member, ministers and coalition partners to discuss the matter. After the meeting on Tuesday night, In the same vain, Faiz Sucuoğlu said that his decision to sack his Minister of Finance Sunat Atun was strongly backed by the UBP party.

He noted that their preferences were conveyed to the Presidency and that the decision belonged to the President but on Wednesday afternoon, the president accepted his resignation instead of approving the sack of the minister of finance.

Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu, was invited to the presidential palace on Wednesday afternoon to meet with the president but left through the back door after the meeting ended. 

Just after the meeting, news went out that the Prime Ministers resignation has been accepted by the president.

He immediately went to the party headquarter where he is expected to make a statement.
