Violations of the law will never be allowed in commercial transport in North Cyprus- Minister of Transport
The TRNC Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, has vowed that commercial vehicle inspections will continue intensively and that they will never allow violations of laws, especially illegal transportation, that damage the reputation of the sector and prevent its development.
Arıklı made the statement on Friday when speaking about the inspection of commercial vehicles carried out so far. The minister stated that taxi drivers should obey the rules of the business and turn on their taximeters before starting a journey, considering the students in the country and the upcoming tourism season.
Arıklı stated that they have received many complaints about this issue and will work on informing especially foreigners coming to the country about this issue in the coming period.
Calling on vehicle owners and drivers to be more sensitive about "T permits" (Taxi permit) and professional driving licenses, Arıklı said, "Everyone has an obligation to comply with the law. Considering traffic safety, I find it extremely inconvenient for someone who does not have a professional driving license to drive a commercial vehicle. We will continue to be sensitive on this issue," he said.
In the inspections carried out by the Traffic Department inspectors and police teams of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport since March, 25, 2022, a total of 34 commercial vehicle drivers were penalized.
In the inspections carried out on March, 25-26, March, 3-9-11-15 and April, 16, 2022, it was determined that 15 casino cars, 15 taxis, 2 trucks, 1 bus and 1 minibus violated the law.
In the inspections carried out in Ercan Airport, Lefkosa, Alsancak and Girne, it was determined that 15 casino vehicles made illegal transportation, while the taxis were penalized the most for not presenting a professional driving license and not turning on the taximeter during trip.
On the other hand, during the inspections, two trucks and a bus that did not have a "T permit" were detected, while a minibus driver was fined for not complying with the schedule.
