Man tries to escape the TRNC with stolen company money, arrested at the seaport

An employee of a carpet cleaning business was arrested while attempting to leave the country carrying 2,835 TL of cash stolen from the company.

According to report, the suspect identified as Doğu Taşdemir, was arrested at Famagusta Port on Thursday while trying  to flee the country with 2,835 TL stolen from a carpet washing company where he was working.

He was taken to a court in Famagusta on Friday.

Testifying in court, police prosecutor, said the suspect on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm took the money from the company located in Lefkosa and did not return it.

Police said that the investigation had just begun and asked that the suspect be detained in police custody for a day because he was a flight risk, so that the investigation could be conducted. 

The officer said that there were a number of statements to be taken and camera footage that needed to be examined.

The suspect was ordered to be detained for one day so that the investigation could be conducted.
