Man caught with 950,000 Euros at Ercan, detained by the police

Just 10 days after a man was found with 500,000 Euro cash while trying to exit the TRNC to Istanbul, Turkey, another man has been arrested again at Ercan Airport for trying to carry 950,000 Euros to Istanbul.

According to police report, the man identified only as A.B, was arrested on Tuesday, June, 28 and taken to court after he was suspected of being a courier for illegal money. Police said initial investigation revealed that the suspect had entered the TRNC and exited on different dates in a very short time frame.

His lawyer told the court that his client had declared the money to customs and presented the paperwork.

The police demanded that the court allow the police to detain the suspect for two days on the grounds that the investigation had only just begun.

Police said statements to be taken will be examined, camera footage will be investigated, as well as an investigation to be made into the source of the money.

The court ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for two days so that the investigation could be conducted thoroughly.

On June, 16, a man was arrested at Ercan airport for couriering illegal money totaling 500,000 Euros from Istanbul to the TRNC.
