Police warn of email spam scams in south Cyprus

Greek Cypriot police has issued a warning to the general public about email scam.

Police said, recently there have been increased reports of misleading spam messages being sent to email users, according to a police statement.

According to the notice, the alleged sender of the message pretends to be an organisation or person who may have information about the recipient of the message and invites the recipient to follow the instructions given to settle the matter.

“The recipient of the message is asked to follow an electronic link mentioned in the message and provide his/her data, such as identity card, passport, bank account, bank card and others,” it said.

The police urged citizens to be particularly careful and under no circumstances to follow the instructions of the sender of this electronic message and, in general, not to give their data to third parties.
