Second earthquake felt by people in Limassol

A second small earthquake within a few hours after the first one occurred on Tuesday afternoon rattled Limassol, south Cyprus on Tuesday evening.

According to the Cyprus Geological Survey Department, the 2.7 magnitude earthquake was again centred in the area of Germasogia, seven kilometres north-east of Limassol at a depth of three kilometres, Phileleftheros reported.

Earlier in the afternoon, an earthquake was felt by residents in Limassol, two days after a 2.6 magnitude quake and a series of aftershocks were recorded in the district, an independent scientific organisation reported.

According to the Euro-Mediterranean seismological centre, eyewitnesses reported shaking in Cyprus, mostly from Limassol, at around 6pm.

The earthquake has not been seismically verified.

This follows a 2.6 magnitude earthquake that shook the island on Sunday, with the epicentre in Limassol. It occurred a few minutes after 1pm and was felt in various parts of the island. No reports of injuries or damage were made.
