Survey in TRNC shows people are not happy

Only 2.58 per cent of people in the TRNC believe that things are going well, a survey published in the Turkish Cypriot press on Tuesday showed.

The results of the three-month survey by the Center for migrants, identity and rights (CMIRS) also showed a decrease in confidence and social indicators in all sectors.

Meanwhile, 38.74 per cent said they would not vote if elections were held tomorrow. Among those who would, PTK got the most support at 18.13 per cent followed by partner in the current ‘government’ KEE with 8.96 per cent.

Institutions that respondents had the lowest confidence in were the ‘government’, political parties, ‘parliament’ and the ‘presidency’.

In the survey, 97.42 percent of the participants stated that things were going in the wrong direction in the country, and it was stated that this rate was increasing day by day by breaking a record. The rate of those who think that things are going in the right direction in the country is only 2.58 percent.

According to the participants, 'economic problems' are among the most important problems of the country, followed by; inflation, the Cyprus Problem, incompetent/incompetent political leaders, unemployment, and low salaries followed.

On the Functioning of Democracy in the TRNC, it was stated that “TRNC democracy failed. The functioning of democracy in the TRNC, which has continued to decline since 2013, when the survey was started, declined to the lowest score ever in April 2022 and became 2.84. In June 2022, this score is 3.13.

In the survey, in the satisfaction scores given by the participants to the country administration, there was no title that received a passing score in the last 4 periods. Topics with the lowest scores in this area; Income distribution included fairness, production-based employment opportunities, infrastructure and equal access in health.
