Turkish Cypriot journalists stage protest in parliament against proposed amendments to right to freedom of speech and expression laws

Members of the Turkish Cypriot journalists Union, on Monday, June, 13, carried out a protest against the proposed amendments to laws that will curb the right to freedom of speech and expression.

The journalists, entered the parliament during parliamentary session on Monday with a black tape on their mouths to indicate that the press will be muzzled.

Speaker of the Assembly, Zorlu Töre, demanded that they leave but was rebuked by the opposition who said they were peaceful protesters and were not interfering with the work of the Assembly and had a right to remain there.
