Two people who kidnapped and robbed a woman in Lefkosa appears in court

Two young men are currently cooling their heels in police custody after they were arrested for robbing and kidnapping a girl at knife point in Lefkosa. 

The two suspect were arrested over the weekend.

They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on Saturday on charges of rape, kidnapping, forced detention, sexual right violation, threat of violence, and unlawful possession of a knife.

According to police statement in court, the two suspects, who are Nigerian students in the TRNC, at about 12:20am on Friday, June, 17, carried a Nigerian lady, 25 in their vehicle at Ziya Rizki Street, in Kyrenia to drop her in her apartment in Lefkosa.

Trouble started when they reportedly passed the road leading to her apartment along the Girne-Lefkosa road. She protested and tried to get out of the vehicle but was resisted by the men who threatened her with a knife.

She said one of them told her; “Be quiet, do whatever we want or we will hurt you.” They forcefully took 350TL cash inside her hand bag, and a Martin Lion brand women's perfume

After taking her belongings, they drove her to a vacant land close to Erülkü round about, in Minareliköy, where they forcefully detained her in the back of the vehicle.

Police said they found the knife used in the incident, the underwear and clothes that the complainants and suspects were wearing during the incident, Martin Lion brand women's perfume and 210 TL cash with the suspects and were taken as evidence. 

They were taken by to court again on Tuesday where they again remanded for another 6 days for more investigation to be carried out on the matter.
