Two students in police detention for living in the TRNC illegally

Two students were over the weekend detained by the police for living in the TRNC illegally.

The two suspects, who were arrested on Thursday, June, 30 for "being without a residence permit in the TRNC", were brought before a court on Monday.

Police officer wh0o testified in court, said that the suspects identified only as DV and JOO were identified and arrested as a result of a search carried out by a police team in accordance with a court order, upon the information received on 30 June.

It was determined that they were without a residence permit as of 30 June in the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Interior Immigration Branch.

Stating that investigation into the matter was completed, the police said that and that if the suspects were released, it was highly likely that they would leave the TRNC territory illegally and demanded that they remain in detention in the central prison for 15 days at this stage.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge ordered the suspects to be held in prison for a period not exceeding 15 days.
