Two people arrested for human trafficking in TRNC

Two people has been arrested for human trafficking in TRNC after taking money from two Bangladeshi nationals with the promise that they would "take them to Europe" and then brought the victims to TRNC as students and workers.

The two suspects were arrested on Thursday, August, 11 and taken to court in Lefkosa on charges of "Secret Alliance to Commit a Grave Crime" and "Violating the Military Forbidden Zone in the First Degree."

Police said the suspects identified only as S.İ. and J.I. received 6,000 Euros each from two Bangladeshi nationals with the promise that they would "take them to Europe" and then brought the victims to TRNC and registered them in educational institutions and also, employed them as workers.

Police officer who testified in court said the incident took place on August 6. The suspects brought two Bangladeshi nationals, aged 21 and 27, to the TRNC with the promise of taking them from Bangladesh to Europe. He said that they received 6,000 Euros each.

The police also stated that it was determined that the victims were "registered with various educational institutions and employed in construction works".

The police said that the same suspects were also found at the Yiğitler Bastion area on August 1, 2022 while trying to transfer the victims to south Cyprus after taking 150 Euros per person in return.

The police stated that the suspects were identified and arrested in Nicosia regarding the issue.

The police also stated that, during the control of the mobile phones of the suspects, passport pictures of many Bangladeshi citizens and many correspondences on these issues were detected.

The police stated that the names of 4 people related to the issue were identified and they were sought after obtaining pending warrants against them.

The police said that the investigation regarding the matter was continuing and there were people wanted and there were signs, and demanded that the suspects be kept in detention for 6 days.
