Two students accused of assault and robbery in Gonyeli

It has been determined that two students who assaulted and stole from people in Gonyeli were living in the TRNC illegally without a residence permit.

The suspects, identified only as O.O.E and O.N.F were arrested on Friday, August, 20 in Kyrenia and taken to court on Monday on charges of “robbery”, “serious assault” and “being without a residence permit in the TRNC”.

Police in a court statement said the suspects battered a person and forcibly took the keys of their vehicles, and also battered a person who was at the scene and was trying to separate the incident that happened in in Gönyeli on July, 28 at around 12:20pm .

Police said they committed robbery by taking his mobile phone, headphones, wristwatch and glasses.

The police said that the same suspects were arrested with a pending warrant on the charges of "Attempted Murder", "Robbery" and "Unauthorized entry of Residence" that occurred in Kyrenia on August 19.

The police stated that the suspects, who were brought before the Kyrenia District Court on the same date, were ordered to be detained for 3 days.

Police said investigation showed that they had no connection with the incident that took place in Girne, and that they had connections with the crimes of “robbery” and “serious assault” that took place on July 28 in Lefkosa, and they were referred to the Lefkosa Judicial Branch for further action on August, 20, 2022.

The police said that the complainants, who came to the Lefkosa Judicial Branch on the same day, saw and knew the suspects. Police said the suspects did not accept the crimes that were explained to them under legal warning.

The police demanded that the suspects present at this stage be kept in police custody for a period of 1 day owing to their illegal residency in the TRNC.

Evaluating the testimony the Judge ordered the suspects to be detained for 1 day so that the investigation could be conducted safely.
