Intoxicated man beat two police officers in Kyrenia

A foreigner who was intoxicated and assaulted two police officers in Kyrenia will face trial in court.

The suspect identified only as PCO was arrested at about 12:10am on Wednesday in Alsancak, for getting violent with two police officers who were on patrol in the area.

Police in a statement said the suspect on Wednesday, September 7 in Alsancak, refused to give a breath sample after he was found to be intoxicated. He resisted the two police officers who tried to arrest him. Police said he severely battered them on the ground with his hands and feet, causing a policeman's eyebrows to pop.

Police said the suspect was subsequently arrested using reasonable force.

The police stated that the suspect had committed the same crime of drug offence and for battering the police in Famagusta a few days ago, and the court ordered his release and put him on trial.

He was taken to court on Thursday again on Thursday.

Police said he may commit similar crime if released.

The court sent the suspect to prison for a period not exceeding one month.
