Student charged with beating two police officers in Lefkosia

A foreigner who reportedly assaulted two police officers in Hamitkoy has been arrested and will be tried in court.

The incident happened at around 7:15pm on Monday in Hamitkoy, Lefkosa.

The suspect identified only as O.O reportedly attacked police officers who warned him for disturbing the people around Hamitköy.

He was taken to court on charges of "Battering the Police, Dismissing the Police, Disturbance, and Inappropriate Attitude".

Police in a court statement said at about 7:15pm on September 19, in Lefkosa, the suspect who was walking along the road on Atatürk Street, acting senselessly and trying to enter houses, pushed a police officer who was going to the scene of the incident in the chest and put his head in the face of another police officer.

Police said the suspect hit and battered them and prevented them from doing their duty.

Police said the suspect was later arrested for flagrante delicto while he acted inappropriately by shouting loudly and making a fuss and shaking his hands and arms indiscriminately.

The police demanded that the suspect be detained for 3 more days, as his  legal status and whether he committed any crime in the area will be investigated.
