Turkish Cypriot police has arrested 4 people in connection with the assault of a Liberian student in a mob incident that happened on Sunday in Lefkosa.

According to report by Turkish Cypriot daily, Yeniduzen, the incident happened at around 11:00am on Sunday in Lefkosa.

The mob of over five Turkish Cypriots men reportedly ambushed and attacked the victim in the middle of the street.

The student was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries. His friend who reached to us said he is in a very bad condition and fighting for his life.

Police said it arrested 4 people in connection with the incident.

According to a source who reached out to us about the incident, the attack on the student was a mistaken identity as the mob were actually after a supposed group of Nigerians who they accused of causing the accident of a Turkish Cypriot taxi driver who is currently battling for his life in intensive care unit of the Lefkosa State hospital.

***The police should do all it can to make sure these suspects are punished. Students life matter and they should be protected by the government.
