TRNC to give Amnesty for accumulated electricity debt

The TRNC authority plans to introduce Amnesty to help facilitate the collection of accumulated electricity debts from customers.

According to the decree with the force of law, a discount of 80 percent in advance payment and 50 percent in installment payments will be made on the late fee.

Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority announced that citizens who want to benefit from the legislative decree regarding the financial regulation related to the collection of electricity debts should sign a contract to restructure their debts from the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Regional authorities until 28 November at the latest.

According to the information received by the TAK correspondent from the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority, according to the legislative decree prepared by the Council of Ministers regarding the financial regulation regarding the collection of electricity debts of consumers to the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority, citizens who apply to the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority will be provided with ease of payment.

According to the decree, which envisages the collection of the entire amount of the main debt arising from the electricity consumption that is not paid partially or completely, it was noted that the citizens who want to benefit from the decree should not have benefited from any of the amnesty laws made in 2020-2021.

Citizens who want to benefit from the decree will be forgiven 80 percent of the late fee of their accumulated, overdue and unpaid debts in case of advance payment. The citizen will be able to close the debt by paying 20 percent of the late fee and the principal.

On the other hand, it was stated that 50 percent of the unpaid, accumulated late fee will be forgiven by the citizens who want to make installments, the remaining 50 percent and the principal can be paid in installments, but the citizens can enter the installment by paying the late fee and 5 percent of the principal in cash.

According to the number of installments to be determined on the basis of the amount of debt, citizens can make installments for a maximum of 30 months.

Installment limits 

Citizen, 6 months for debts up to 3 thousand TL, 12 months for debts between 3 thousand 1 TL and 20 thousand TL, 18 months for debts between 20 thousand 1-75 thousand TL, between 75 thousand 1 TL and 150 thousand TL. 24 monthly installments can be made for debts, and 30 monthly installments for debts over 150 thousand TL.
