Double accidents involving drunk driving in Kyrenia and Lefkosa

Two pedestrians were injured late Thursday night in a drunk driving incident that happened in Kyrenia.

The incident happened at around 9:45pm on Thursday on the Kyrenia-Alsancak main road when a motorist hit two pedestrians.

Police in its report said the driver of the vehicle, Vladimir Vorozhtsov, 21 who was driving under the influence of alcohol with 139 ml/mg of alcohol in his blood, lost control of his steering on the Kyrenia-Alsancak main road and hit two pedestrians, Abdulkadir Beldek, 20 and Baran Yavuz, 21 who were walking on the roadside. 

Both men were injured and taken to Kyrenia State Hospital for treatment. Baran Yavuz was transferred to Abdulkadir Beldek Lefkosia State Hospital. 

The other pedestrian Abdulkadir Beldek, was transferred to the Near East University Hospital where he remains under observation in intensive care.

The driver Vladimir Vorozhtsov was arrested.

Police investigation into the incident continues.

The legal alcohol limit when driving in the TRNC is 49 milligrams of alcohol in every 100 milligrams of blood.

In a similar incident that happened in Lefkosa, there was an accident involving two vehicles that took place on Osman Örek Street in Lefkosia at around 6:00pm on Thursday.

Police said one of the drivers was drunk in the alcohol test performed by the police.

Police said the driver, who was, under the influence of 156 promil alcohol was driving carelessly when he approached a traffic light and lost control of the wheels. He left the road and crossed the middle media to the other side of the road and craned unto a vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

No one was injured in the accident.
