Man gets 7 years jail term for sexual assault of a child

A man has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for the sexual assault of an 8-year old girl in Lefkosa.

Nabeel Nabeel who is on trial for the crimes of “Violation of the Sexual Immunity and Detention of a Child”, “Sexual Abuse of the Child”, “Sexual Assault”, “Opening a Shop”, and “theft”, pleaded guilty to all charges related to the events that occurred between May 31, 2022 and June 7, 2022.

Senior Judge Vedia Berkut Barkın announced the unanimous decision of the Lefkosia Heavy Penal Court committee, composed of President Fadıl Aksun, and Judge Murat Soytaç.

Judge Barkın emphasized that the increase in crimes against children is a cause for concern in  society.

The judge said  that such experiences of the child could negatively affect her whole life.

He underlined that the accused took the 8-year-old girl to the toilet of a playground, showing her his genitals by deceiving her to buy her food. He followed the fleeing child, took her in his arms in the park, kissed her and sexually assaulted her.

Barkın stated that deterrent and exemplary punishments should be given to those who commit and tend to commit such crimes.

Judge Murat Soytaç, who read the verdict of the case regarding the crime of opening a shop, underlined the seriousness and prevalence of the crimes committed by the accused.

The delegation touched upon all the issues in favor and against the accused and announced that they unanimously sentenced him to 7 years in prison.
