Police warns of fake Euros in circulation

Turkish Cypriot police has issued a warning to the general public about counterfeit money in circulation. 

The police on Tuesday said it arrested two people on Monday, November, 21 who went to two different markets operating in Bostancı as customers and made purchases with counterfeit Euros they had with them.

The suspects were found with a total of 120 Euros cash which includes, four, 50 and one, 20 Euro bank noted with serial number MB66688880. They obtained a total of 150 Euro and 751 TL goods they purchased fraudulently.

The persons in question identified only as IA, 18 and NA, 16 were identified and arrested while they were entering south Cyprus from the Yeşilırmak crossing point. 

Noting that a total of 14 more fake notes was also detected in the vehicles of the arrested persons, the Police warned that there is a possibility that these counterfeit notes may have been released into circulation beforehand.

These currencies denominations are in 50, 20, 10 and 5 Euro.

Police said people and institutions that will trade and exchange money with citizens are kindly requested to be very careful, and to report anyone they deem suspicious to the nearest police station.
