Student stole wristwatch and money in university library, identified with the help of security cameras

A student who stole a wristwatch and cash on a desk in a university library in Haspolat has been identified and arrested by the police.

The suspect identified as ANAI, 20 committed the crime on October, 28 at the Cyprus International University library.

He was identified and arrested on November, 14 after being detected by the university security cameras. He was taken to court on Tuesday, November, 15.

Police officer who testified in court said that the suspect was accused of stealing a “Rolex” brand wristwatch belonging to one MMK and a total of 700 TL cash in a bag which were on the desk in the university library.

Upon the complaint, the police said that the person who stole the watch and the money was detected by the security cameras, according to the information received from the Cyprus International University Security Unit on 14 November.

The police told the court that the suspect was identified in the investigation carried out on the same day.

He stated that the suspect was arrested with a court order, his passport has not been found yet, his status in the country has not yet been determined, and his statements will be confirmed and refuted, and demanded that the suspect be detained in the police for 2 days in the first place.
