Man sexually assault woman he gave a lift at knife point on the Lefkosa - Famagusta road

A man who stopped to give a girl hitchhiking on the Lefkosa - Famagusta road a ride in his car has been arrested for attempting to rape the girl at knife point.  

The incident happened at around 12:50am on Wednesday, December, 29 on the Lefkosa - Famagusta road.

The suspect identified only as FA, 46 was arrested and taken to court on Friday on charges of attempted rape, injury, sexual assault, sexual harassment, threat of violence, unlawful carrying of knife, serious assault.

Police said the suspect who was driving from Lefkosa to Famagusta stopped at the Haspolat round about in Minareliköy to pick the hitchhiking girl identified only as RPB, 27 in his vehicle.

When the lady was in the car, the suspect showed her the money in his pocket and offered to have sex with her.

The victim said the suspect sexually assaulted her without her consent, continued to drive and did not stop the vehicle even though she told him that she wanted to get out of the vehicle. She said the suspect then stopped on a dirt road in Minareliköy and injured her with a knife he had in his vehicle.

The victim severely battered the suspect by hitting his body with various means while she was trying to take the knife from the suspect's hand.

The victim was wounded in the palms while trying yo take the knife from the suspect. 

Police said the injured victim opened the door of the vehicle and threw herself on the road. The suspect then fled the scene with the vehicle but was detected and arrested in Cihangir on the same day.

Police said the suspect voluntarily confessed to his crimes in the first investigation. The vehicle and knife in question were seized as evidence.  

The police demanded that the suspect be detained for 3 days so that the investigation could be carried out safely.

The suspect was remanded to two months in prison again on Monday until trial.
