A Nigerian who was involved in drugs sales have been sentenced to 24 months in prison by a Lefkosa court.

The judgement was delivered on Tuesday in Lefkosa.

The defendant was taken to court on charges of illegal drug purchase, delivery and possession following his arrest by the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Department team in Gonyeli in 2022.

At the decision hearing held in the presence of Lefkosia Heavy Penal Court President, Fadıl Aksun, Senior Judge Vedia Berkut Barkın and Judge Murat Soytaç, Aksun announced the verdict against the defendants.

Aksun announced that they found him guilty and convicted him of the crime of illegal drug purchase, delivery and possession brought against the accused.

Aksun said, “The defendant sold drugs for school fees and his mother's medical expenses. We do not expect students or tourists coming to our country to sell drugs and poison other people when their money runs out, but to go directly to their country, so this is not a mitigating reason.

Mentioning all the issues in favor and against the accused, Aksun announced that they unanimously sentenced the accused to 24 months in prison.
