Yellow warning for isolated heavy thunderstorms issued for Friday

The Cyprus Met Office has issued a yellow warning for isolated and probably heavy thunderstorms across Cyprus on Friday.

The warning is in effect from 5:30 am until 2:00 pm on Friday, March 17.

“Isolated, probably heavy thunderstorms are likely to affect the area at times,” it said.

Precipitation rates are expected to range between 35-50 millimeters per hour while hail is also likely, it added.

Meanwhile, the weather will be cloudy with sunshine on Friday but rain is expected in the afternoon.

Winds will be variable, southerly to south-westerly, moderate to strong, force 3 to 4 and at times 5 Beaufort.

The sea will be slight to moderate.

The temperature will rise to 21 C inland, 19 C to 21 C in coastal areas and 9 C in the mountains.
