Turkish Cypriot journalist barred from entering Turkey

A Turkish Cypriot journalist, Ulaş Barış was barred from entering Turkiye over the weekend when he tried to travel there from the TRNC as a part of a group of journalist going to cover the launch of the maiden flight by the new TRNC airline.

Journalist Ulaş Barış, one of the writers and programmers of the Cyprus Post, who left the country on Saturday morning to go to Istanbul, was stopped from entering Turkey.

On Saturday, April, 15, tweeted saying that he was fine. “I was denied entry in the morning, my ID and phone were confiscated. Then I was kept in a room with other people who could not enter for about six hours. I did not encounter any bad words or treatment. I will be sent back soon.”

According to report, Baris, was prevented from entering Turkey on the grounds of the "N-82" code.

WHAT IS N-82?

N-82 (Foreigner whose entry is subject to prior permission)

In the N-82 restriction code, the foreigner has to obtain a preliminary permit to enter Turkey. However, this permission is almost never allowed in practice. This is an application of the ban on entry into the country. In this case, it is not possible for the foreigner to enter Turkey without filing a lawsuit and canceling the code.
