Man arrested for harassing a woman by calling her several times using a private number

An individual who repeatedly called a woman from a “private number” and used sexually explicit language, was arrested. 

The suspect named only as S.Y, a foreign national was arrested and brought to the a court in Lefkosa on Thursday on charges of “Sexual Harassment” and “Harassment via Telephone”.

Police in court statement said between November 18 and 22, the suspect allegedly hid his phone number and called a woman residing in Kyrenia, using sexually explicit language.

Following an investigation, call records from KKTCELL and KKTC Vodafone on November 27, 2024, revealed the suspect’s identity. The police located and detained S.Y. in Nicosia.

The police also seized the mobile phone and SIM card used during the incident as evidence. It was noted that the suspect is residing in Northern Cyprus on a work permit and that the investigation has been completed.

During the court hearing, the defendant claimed not to know the complainant.

The judge released the suspect on bail on the conditions that he is banned from traveling abroad, report to the police once a week, pay a bail fee of 30,000 TL and bring two guarantors to sign bonds worth 300,000 TL each.

The case will proceed with the suspect out of custody under these conditions.
