Nigerian Ex-law maker convicted of fraud

A federal high court in Lokoja, Nigeria has sentenced a former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Grabriel Daudu to 2 years imprisonment for corruption and money laundering.\
Justice Iyang Ekwo, in a judgement found Gabriel Daudu, from central Kogi State, guilty of 77 out of 208 charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial  Crimes Commission.

A number of prominent government officials from the previous administration have been arrested and undergoing trial on various financial offenses. Certain quarters has accused the president of only targeting the opposition as a witch hunt.

The EFCC says Mr Daudu, who was put on trial in 2010, was involved in laundering about $7m (£5m).

Delivering the judgement in Kogi state capital, Lokoja, Justice Inyang Ekwo said the persecution had "proved its case beyond every reasonable doubt", the EFCC said in a statement.
