Cyprus to have two time zones, as North Cyprus follow Turkey in refusing to change time

Cyprus: Cyprus will have two time zones, one hour apart, from October 31, 2016 after the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) ‘parliament’ decided to follow Turkey’s example to stick with the current summer time all year round and not return to daylight-saving time in order to make better use of daylight during the winter period.

According to the decree adopted by the Turkish Cypriot parliament, which immediately come into effect, the setting will now remain in place throughout the year across the country.

Turkey had on September 6th decided it will not turn its clocks one hour back in October when daylight-saving time comes into effect on October 30.

The decision by the Turkish Cypriot side to follow Turkish's footstep means the side will be one hour ahead of their Greek Cypriot neighbours on the other side of the Green Line come October 31.

TRNC prime minister, Binali Yıldırım, in speech to provincial governors said;

“I abolished the winter-summer time difference,”
“There will be no confusion now. The hours will be the same in winter and summer. You will change, not the hours.”
