Atatürk to be remembered on Saturday

Founder of the modern Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk will be remembered on Saturday, November, 2017.

The ceremony which will be held both in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Saturday also marks the 79th anniversary of his death.

A number of remembrance ceremonies, particularly at schools across the country, will be held on the day.

Sirens will be sounded for two minutes starting at 9.05am, the exact time when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk passed away on the 10th of November 1938, report Turkish Cypriot daily, BRT.

The ceremony which will be held in front of the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa include the laying of wreaths, a minute of silence and the lowering of flags to half mast. 

The ceremony will be held in other cities and towns throughout the TRNC.
