Atatürk to be remembered on Saturday

The founder of the modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk will be remembered on Saturday November, 10 both in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern on the 80th anniversary of his death.

A number of remembrance ceremonies, particularly at schools will be held across the country to mark the day on Saturday.

Sirens will be sounded at 9.05am, the exact time when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk passed away on the 10th of November 1938.

The first ceremony of the day will be held in Lefkoşa in front of the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa.

Wreaths will be laid, a minute of silence will be observed and flags will be lowered to half mast to the National Anthem.

The ceremony will end with the signing of the special book.

Similar ceremonies will be held in other cities and towns throughout the Republic.

The second ceremony in the capital Lefkoşa will take place at the Atatürk Cultural Centre.

Here in line with the Atatürk Commemoration Program a minutes silence will be followed with the singing of the National Anthem and speeches will be delivered on behalf of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces, the Turkish Embassy to Lefkoşa and the Ministry for National Education and Culture.

The remembrance ceremony here will come to an end with an oratorio by the Lefkoşa Anatolia Fine Arts High School.
