52-year-old man killed in armed attack in Lefkosa

A 52-year-old man who is the owner of Gesfi exchange lost his life on Wednesday night as a result of an armed attack at his residence in Shekt Sami Küpeli Street in Ortaköy, north Cyprus.

The victim identified as Gokhan Naim, who was seriously injured in the attack that happened at about 5:55pm and could not be saved despite all medical interventions at Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkosa.

He was critically injured in the attack and succumbed to his injuries as he was being taken to hospital.

Turkish Cypriot media said that he was shot six times as he arrived home.  A white car was seen leaving the scene at speed.

A bag, which reportedly contained 3 million Turkish lira (some 500,000 euro), was found empty next to the injured businessman, while a pistol found about 100 metres from the crime scene  has been sent for tests.

According to police report, an investigation was carried out in connection with the murder of Naim, the owner of Gesfi Exchange Office. 

A 9-millimeter-sized pistol used in the attack was found near the scene of the murder.
