Thursday's temperature in Cyprus reach 41.9°C – highest ever recorded in May

The Cyprus Met office confirmed that temperatures recorded in some parts of the country on Thursday reached 41.9°C.

KitasWeather said that this is the highest ever recorded temperature in Cyprus during the month and 11 degrees higher than the 30.9°C normal values for the period (May 21-25).

The previous highest recorded temperature for May (41.5°C) was in 1995 according to Met Office archives which store data from 1991-2005.

The lowest minimum temperature recorded in Athalassa in May was 7.5°C.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Cyprus was again at Athalassa when the heat reached 45.6°C in August 2010.

The Met office issued an extreme high temperature warning for Thursday. It said that a warm air mass is affecting the area.
